When Chase Fisher founded Blenders Eyewear, he set out to revolutionize the sunglasses market from being dominated by an individual company to one that offers fresh, vibrant, comfortable sunnies at a reasonable price.
He started a grassroots effort buoyed by social media and his network at San Diego State University by selling sunglasses out of his backpack while doubling as a surf coach.
The California-based company knows its customer. They are the pleasure-seekers of the world - the ones who lust for life’s adventures. But Blenders Eyewear strives to push them out of their comfort zone and try something different.
For Chase and his team, it was about creating a recognizable brand image and to make their customers feel like friends.

How They Did It
They installed Happy Birthday Email to capture customers birthdays and send them a personalized message on their special day. The main focus of capture was on the order status page, as they wanted to engage with active customers.
However, they also used a Birthday Club landing page where they could send traffic to and collect more birthdays. This way they could collect birthdays of past and new customers and build a very effective Birthday Club.
A Birthday Success Story
Their Birthday Club has been an incredible success. Since launching the campaign they have captured over 320,000 customers birthdates! This means over the next 12 months they will send that many birthday emails, with the volume always increasing as the more customer sign up.
What’s more, 25% of all customers placing orders on the site, are signing up to the Birthday Club, meaning this is a rapidly growing campaign. The beauty of running an automated Birthday Club is it’s not seasonal and the more birthdays they capture the more customers they will be surprising and delighting!
